“This is such a clever image, full of life and joy and atmosphere,” says Caroline Kenyon, Founder/Director of the Awards. “The world is in the grip of Covid19 and normal life, whatever that may be, has stopped for all of us. But photos such as these remind us of the ways and cultural habits that mean so much to us and bind us together. We are all the same.”

Speaking of his win Zay Yar Lin says:

“I’m so happy and honoured to win two Category Awards in this year Pink Lady Food Photography Awards. Thanks to all judges, organisers and sponsors.”

The lockdown did not defeat the celebrations. For the first time since the competition’s inception in 2011, the Awards evening was held online. Winners were announced by legendary musician and cheesemaker, Alex James, in a livestreamed event on the evening of Tuesday 28 April 2020. It was watched by an audience across the globe, including celebrities from the food and photography world.

Susie White, our Communications Manager was one of the judges for the category and said: “Judging this category was a real pleasure but also a tough job as there were so many beautiful pictures. The category itself is a great opportunity for story telling and personally, I could spend hours gazing at the images and would love to more of the stories behind each one.  For now, they offer the perfect opportunity to see the importance of food for sale, across the world and how central it is to everyday life and existence.”

Of the competition itself Phil Turnbull, CEO of APAL said “The standard was exceptional. There were nearly 9,000 entries from over 70 countries – this competition inspires across the world. It is a truly global coming together of talent.”
